Final Comments on Writing a Novel | Crazy.Beautiful.Life

Oct 19, 2012 by Stephanie

Okay, well, they aren?t really final comments ? but they will be my final comments on shameless self promotion of my new novel Abandon that is available now. ?Yesterday, the proof of my book came to my parents house in all it?s glorious paperback format and suddenly, the entire thing felt so real. ?One of the downsides to self-publishing is the fact that it?s so easy: ?You upload to Barnes and Nobel, Amazon and Lulu and bam, you?re pretty much done after only an hour of work. ?It doesn?t feel real, like you really accomplished anything.

Then I held the book, and I flipped through the pages, and my words were there, in print. ?It was an awesome feeling. ?I finally felt the?sense?that I accomplished something major.

And finally, my mom commented on the book. ?You see, my parents haven?t really said anything about it yet, but sitting in the living room that is soon to be no longer there, my mom told me she was proud of me, and that character development in the book was great. ?And then, when I got home, I found I was accepted to a blog tour that will kick off in about three weeks which will include interviews, giveaways, and all kinds of fun stuff. ?As a requirement for this, I had to set up a facebook fan page?(which you should all like, obviously) and the first comment I got was this:

You see, Bob Fisher was my writing arch-nemesis?in high school. ?Together, we were were on the school newspaper, in creative writing, you name it, we pretty much went head to head in all kinds of writing exercises?and I always was jealous of his writing ability. ?(I assure you, he is a far more?eloquent?and talented writer than I am, in fact, I?m pretty sure he writes for a living now.) ?To have him say that? ?I totally got the warm fuzzies.

So thank you to everyone who has supported me in this?endeavor?so far. ?You guys rock my socks off. ?(Especially if they are purple, Mary.)

Next week ? stay tuned, because I?m going to start the Adventures of Plushy Romney. ?(You thought I forgot about that didn?t you?)
