The UBC Heat women?s soccer team opens its PacWest regular season home slate this Sunday as they host valley rival Thompson Rivers University Sunday afternoon at 1:00 P.M. The Heat are hoping to continue their winning ways as they have not dropped a regular season home game on the Nonis Turf field at UBC?s Okanagan campus in over two years; the last one being September 6, 2009. The Heat are undefeated in league play after the season?s opening weekend while the Wolfpack come in with a one loss and one tie record.

Starting the season with two straight wins is a promising start for Claire Paterson and her Heat women?s soccer team, after an undefeated regular season campaign in 2010, Paterson has shown she knows how to have her team ready to play and looks to continue her winning ways this Sunday when the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack ventures to Nonis field.

Not surprisingly the Heat have ended up in the first edition of the CCAA rankings, after the opening weekend the Heat are ranked 9th in the nation. Coach Paterson says, ?it is really nice to be there [the Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association rankings] and get that national recognition.?

The Heat will continue to be a balanced offense team, but look for second year forward Lindsey Briggs(Delta, BC) to continue her stellar play from the first week as coach Paterson notes, ?is really contributing a lot within her game.? Lindsey scored a goal in each of the two games so far this year and is tied for the league lead with teammates Kirsten Dodds(Vernon, BC)and Marrisa Klees (Bellingham, WA) all with two goals a piece.

Freshman forward Kirsten Dodds, whom will look to continue with her goal scoring ways as the Vernon product ?has done really well for us,? claims Paterson. The Heat will feature a returning All-Star in net as Sabrina Gaparac, will look to turn away the Wolfpack as she turned away her opponents last weekend after not allowing scoring a shutout in each of the first two matches.

?We expect it to be a very exciting game and we want to bring it in front of our home crowd,? states Paterson.

Although the game is taking place on September 18 the UBC Heat are using this game as an opportunity to take part in the second annual Sports Day in Canada. As part of Sports Day in Canada celebrations, both teams? coaches will Go Shoeless to raise awareness of the Right to Play movement.
