52071754_crop_650x440 Chris Graythen/Getty Images

Defense has been the driving force for successful Auburn football teams in the past. When the Tigers have success stuffing the run and suppressing the pass, championships tend to follow.

The 1957 Auburn Tigers championship team didn?t allow a rushing touchdown all season. The 2010 team was No. 9 in rushing defense and finished the season with the best showing of the year against Oregon in the national title game.

Looking at past success for the Tigers, there have been some very talented Tigers that have led the charge for the lauded defenses. Looking back through the year?s at the bone-crushing hits and pick sixes, here are the top 20 defenders in Auburn Tigers history.?

Zeke Smith: DL, 1957-59

Zeke Smith was a stud defensive tackle for the 1957 Auburn Tigers national title team. He also was the first Auburn Tigers player to win the Outland Trophy for the nation?s top defensive lineman.

Smith was also a consensus All-American selection following the 1958 season, as well as a preseason Playboy All-American in 1959.

Smith played both offense and defense, but his biggest impact was along the defensive line. The 1958 Tigers defense led by Smith held the Tennessee Volunteers to minus-33 yards of offense and no first downs in their annual conference showdown.

Smith is ingrained in Auburn history with the annual awarding of the Zeke Smith Award. It has been awarded to the Auburn Tigers defensive player of the year since 1977.?

Jackie Burkett: LB, 1957-59

Jackie Burkett was a member of the Tigers national championship team in 1957 and was a multi-sport star for the Tigers. In football, he played center and linebacker.

Burkett earned All-SEC honors in 1958, and was an All-American during the 1958 and 1959. Burkett was the defensive captain during the ?59 season, calling the signals for the defense.

1969 was also the year that McClinton earned his consensus All-American honors. Most recently, McClinton was honored by the SEC as he became one of 12 SEC Football Legends for the 2011 Legends class.?

David Langner: DB, 1971-73

David Langner is forever etched in Auburn lore for his participation in the ?Punt, Bama, Punt? game in 1972. Bill Newton blocked two consecutive Alabama punts to see Langner return both for touchdowns.

Outside of that one famous game, Langner turned out one of the best careers for a defensive back at Auburn. Langner is tied for fifth on Auburn?s career interception list with 12 and is also tied for second for most interceptions in a season with eight in 1972.

Freddie Smith: LB, 1976-79

Freddie Smith earned his nickname ?Fast Freddie? for a reason?the guy was a burner. Smith played during a mediocre time for Auburn football, the Doug Barfield years, but he was anything but a mediocre defender.

Smith currently holds the all-time tackle record for Auburn with 528 total tackles. Smith currently sits at the No. 1 and No. 4 position for total tackles in a season. In 1977 he recorded 193 total tackles, and in 1979 he finished with 162 total tackles.

Smith has been a player that has been somewhat lost in the shuffle of history. At the end of the day, he was one of the best linebackers to ever adorn orange and blue and is likely to never see his tackles record touched.

Smith is now a member of the Limestone County Sports Hall of Fame, becoming an inductee during the 2008 class.

Gregg Carr: LB, 1981-84

Robinson was an All-American selection in 1994 with a memorable performance against the No. 1 ranked Florida Gators. The moment that is caught in time in most fans memories is the winning touchdown catch from Frank Sanders.

Before the catch however Robinson had intercepted three Gators passes, the third of which set up the winning touchdown drive. Oddly enough, both Sanders and Robinson hailed from the same school in Florida, Dillard High School in Ft. Lauderdale.

Robinson finished with 13 career interceptions.

Takeo Spikes: LB, 1995-97

Torbor was drafted in the fourth round of the 2004 NFL draft. He still plays professionally for the Buffalo Bills.?

Dontarrious Thomas: LB, 2000-2003

Dontarrious Thomas was a very formidable defender for the Tigers during the early 2000?s. Thomas was a leading reason for the Tigers to earn the preseason national attention that they gained prior to the 2003 season.

Thomas finished his Auburn career eighth all-time on the Auburn total tackles list. He led the Tigers in tackles during the 2001 season, finishing with 122 total stops.

Thomas was a feared middle defender that kept opposing rushers at bay and helped the Auburn defense retain its tenacious and nasty reputation as a stingy and hard-hitting squad throughout the 2000?s.

Karlos Dansby: LB, 2000-03

Karlos Dansby came to Auburn as a wide receiver from Woodlawn High School in Birmingham. Dansby was one of the first of many defense converts during the Tommy Tuberville era. Dansby also played for current head coach Gene Chizik during his time as the Auburn defensive coordinator from 2002-2004.

Rodgers was drafted in 2005 during the first round by the Washington Redskins. He is still playing in the NFL with the San Francisco 49?ers.?

Quentin Groves: DE, 2004-07

Quentin Groves came to Auburn as a unique pass-rushing defensive end. At Greenville Weston High School in Greenville, MS, Groves played both tight end and defensive end going on to become a Top 100 player, according to Tom Lemming.

Groves came in at a special time for Auburn becoming an instant playmaker for the 2004 undefeated team as a red-shirt freshman. Groves totaled 7.5 sacks that season including a single-game record-tying performance with four sacks against Kentucky.

Groves worked his way into backfields often as a sack specialist throughout his career earning a total of 26 career sacks, placing him tied for first on Auburn?s all-time sack list. Groves was a part of the 50-win 2007 senior class, the class with the most wins in Auburn history.

Groves was drafted in the second round by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2008 and currently plays for the Oakland Raiders.?

Antonio Coleman: DE, 2006-09

Antonio Coleman burst onto the seen as a sophomore in 2007 tallying 37 tackles and 8.5 sacks. Coleman helped fill in for an injured Quentin Groves and allowed for the Tigers to see virtually no drop-off in his absence.

Coleman ended his Auburn career third on the career sack list with 24.5 total sacks. He is also tied for ninth for most in a season when he totaled nine sacks during the 2009 season.

Coleman was a bright spot for the Tigers defense during the transition years of 2008 and 2009.

Coleman entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2010. He is currently on the Arizona Cardinals roster as a linebacker. ?

Nick Fairley: DL, 2009-10

Nick Fairley transferred from JUCO to Auburn in 2009. Fairley only started two games that season and recorded 28 tackles. It was a far cry from groundbreaking defensive play.

In 2010, the switch was flipped for good, and Fairley stormed onto the scene finishing his senior season with 60 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks and an interception. That performance made him the Tigers second Lombardi Award winner, as Tracy Rocker was the first.

History was made that season as Fairley was the first Lombardi winner to be coached by a former winner himself.

Fairley left the Plains a year early and was a part of the 2011 NFL draft where he was a first-round pick by the Detroit Lions.?

Day in the Life ? Making A Home And Family

I was inspired by a Mama friend??to do my very own Day in the Life?post because well, I may not be all that exciting but it?s fun to take pictures and document how my days go. ?Through all the ups and downs, spilled juices, and diaper leaks there sure is a lot to be thankful for.

7:30am :: Wake up call from V who always proceeds to wake up AJ with her booming voice

Since I knew a friend was planning to visit, I showered right away and brewed coffee. ?Then I got the kids dressed.

8:30 :: Coffee (and breakfast with internet time)

9:00 :: Barn chores

In my cool mud boots :)

Feed the chickens ? check. ?Feed the barn dog ? check. ?Feed the goats ? check.

Pick eggs ? check.

By the time chores were done, a friend was over with her little one for a play date.

10:00 and 11:00 looked similar. ?Babies playing or nursing, toddler being crazy self, mamas trying to chat.

11:30 :: Lunch

I didn?t take a picture of our lunch, but we had hot dogs and leftover pasta primavera. ?I guess I was feeling rushed to get out the door.

12:15 :: We packed up and left for the library

1:00 :: We were comfortably settled into the library.

Val played with toys, I read her a few books, she colored, and we got some new things to take home with us for the week.

2:00 :: A quick stop in for a few groceries and a paper

3:00 :: Log into work

Once I got home, I let AJ nap in his carseat (I am that mom that leaves a sleeping baby sleep), turned on a movie for V (I am also that mom), and I logged into work for an hour.

4:00 :: Decaf chai latte time

I had a little bit of down time after work and before supper so I made myself a hot cuppa. ?I nursed and changed the baby, set him up to play, did a load of laundry, and got V about 5 different snacks this hour.

5:00 :: AJ took a nap while snuggling and V decided to have a dance party

6:00 :: I started prepping dinner

I was enjoying my cuddling time with AJ, so I didn?t start supper early. ?Val helped me mix up the eggs for scrambled eggs and stirred the mix for biscuits and gravy. ?Our dinner was fabulous ? you have to try these gluten-free biscuits and gravy! ?Somewhere in here I managed to get V in the shower.

7:00 :: The GOP debate was on?

I listened to most of the debate from the kitchen while I did dishes, cleaned the counters, and cleared off the dining room table.

8:00 :: More debate

The scene looked very similar ? AJ was cuddling with DaDa in the chair, V was playing/crawling on us/had one tired meltdown.

8:30 :: Bedtime routine

I changed AJ?s diaper, read 3 bedtime stories while we were on the living room rug, and I sang them this book (while listening to the CD of course).

I nursed AJ, talked to V a bit, but then she had to get up a few times to give her DaDa a hug and get kefir to drink. ?Finally, she fell asleep holding her Thomas the Train flashlight. ?I wiggled out of bed.

9:30 :: Write thank you card and work on blog post

Here I am! ?Did I mention I had some dark chocolate bar with almond and cherries? ?Okay, I had a lot of it. ?It was really good. :)

That?s a Day in the Life of me. ?

A busy, rewarding, sometimes crazy, mostly fun, blessed, never boring life of mine! ?

I wouldn?t trade it for the world!

Mon Ami Gourmet Deli and Antiques: Lessons from Lasagne ...

When I was a kid, we had an old television that my dad bought from the appliance repair man up the road so that we could watch Steve Prefontaine run in the 1972 Olympics. You had to change the channels with a pair of needle-nosed pliars. We lived out in the country and got 3 channels with pretty poor reception (even with the help of some tin foil rolled up around the antenae!). Oregon Public Broadcasting, however, came in clear as a bell, and every Saturday noon I sat down with a pen and paper to watch the Queen of French Cuisine, Julia Child.

At 13, this woman FASCINATED me. Having grown up in a tee-totalling home, the idea that anyone could drink wine and cook with sharp instruments over an open flame and remain standing was, well, Outside The Box for my young and impressionable self. Julie Child cooked foods I'd never eaten. She had REALLY cool cooking utensils. And she was fearless in the kitchen. What a woman!

And so, I paid attention when she talked. I took notes. I wrote down recipes. And I practiced. Every Tuesday night, I presented a much fussed over dinner entree for my family. To their credit, my parents generously encouraged my forays into the kitchen and enthusiastically applauded my culinary flops AND successes. As my repertoire expanded, so did my confidence and my passion for food, and I began to tackle recipes that broaded my skills and my culinary horizons.

Enter "Lasagne a la Francaise" - or "French Lasagne" from Julia's classic Mastering the Art of French Cooking, which launched me into the realm of "foodie firsts". It was the first time I cooked with safron. The first time I'd boiled wide noodles (until then, my experience with pasta had been limited to macaroni and spaghetti). The first time I'd made a bechamel sauce. The first time I'd poached chicken. The first time I met ricotta (although Julia did say I could substitute cottage cheese if I didn't have any). And ... wait for it ... the first time I COOKED WITH WINE (albeit a very salty "cooking" wine that came in a little bottle from McKay's Market with a screw-top cap - it was, technically, the FIRST TIME an alcoholic beverage crossed the threshold of my parents' pentecostal home). And the result? Success! "Lasagne a la Francaise" became MY signature dish - served with a flourish for special occasions and new boyfriends. Today, it was our featured lunch special at Mon Ami. The prep time meant I had to start on it early in the morning, but the end result was well worth the effort.

Back in The Day, my television chef mentors were limited to Julia Child and Jeff Smith, The Frugal Gourmet (sadly, Jeff left the culinary world under a cloud of unexcusable crime, but not before he taught me to make Cauliflower Au Gratin). Under their tutelage, I fine-honed my basic skills and expanded my palette. Today, with a plethora of celebrity chefs and cooking channels to choose from, I am (understandably) in Gastric Nirvana every time I turn on the television. From them, I've learned to roll sushi, debone a chicken, make gnochi ... the list continues. And thanks to Paula Dean, I feel ABSOLUTELY NO SHAME about the amount of butter I cook with. Nothing, however, has contributed to my skill-set as a chef like the lessons I learned when I tackled my very first French Lasagne. And, in the words of Michaelangelo, an artist who most certainly mastered his craft, "still I am learning." Bon appetit!

Activists demand ceasefire, aid access in Syria

By msnbc.com staff and news services

Warnings from Syrian activists of a humanitarian catastrophe in Homs grew more desperate Thursday as government forces resumed shelling an opposition stronghold in the?central city, where hundreds have died in a weekslong siege.

The toll mounted a day after two Western journalists were killed in shelling in Homs, and there more?international calls for a cease-fire to allow assistance to reach areas hardest hit by the regime's crackdown on opponents.

?

U.N. investigators accused Assad's security apparatus of crimes against humanity as world outrage mounted over violence that has cost thousands of lives during an almost year-long popular uprising against his 11-year rule.

A "Friends of Syria" meeting in Tunis on?Friday?will call on Syrian forces to stop firing to give international aid groups access to areas worst hit by the violence which are running out of medicine and food, according to a draft declaration obtained by Reuters.

Russia, however, said Moscow and Beijing ? staunch allies of President Assad ? remained opposed to any foreign interference in Syria.

Across the country, activists reported between 16 and 40 people killed in attacks by security forces in rebellious areas that included the Hamacountryside in central Syria and the mountainous Jabal al-Zawiya region in the north. There has been no way to confirm independently the specific death tolls provided by the activists or by the Syrian government.?

In London, diplomats from United States, Europe and Arab nations prepared to demand that Assad call a ceasefire and allow humanitarian aid in hard-hit areas.

Assad's tanks move in to Syrian rebel stronghold

The ultimatum, outlined by participants to the London talks, is likely to be presented Friday in Tunisia at a major international conference on the Syrian crisis. Further defiance by Assad could bring even tougher sanctions and isolation.

In a statement released Thursday, British Foreign Office Minister Alistair Burt said the U.N. Human Rights Council report on Syria is "damning."

?I am appalled by the evidence that young children are being targeted by snipers, and that security forces continue to arrest and torture wounded patients in State hospitals," Burt's statement read.

The minister added that those responsible for these "terrible atrocities" will be held accountable. British Prime Minister David Cameron said in a news conference in London the Syrian government was guilty of butchery and murder.

Homs has been under a fierce government attack for nearly three weeks. The International Committee for the Red Cross said it was trying to negotiate daily two-hour ceasefires in Homs to provide aid to civilians in violence-hit areas.

Homs-based activist Omar Shaker said intense barrages hit residential districts in Baba Amr again Thursday, but there was no immediate word on casualties. He said food, water and medical supplies are running dangerously low in Baba Amr.

"Every minute counts. People will soon start to collapse from lack of sleep and shortages in food," he said.

On Wednesday, shelling of Baba Amr killed American-born war correspondent Marie Colvin and French photographer Remi Ochlik.

They were among a group of journalists who had crossed into Syria illegally and were sharing accommodations with activists, raising speculation that government forces targeted the makeshift media center where they were staying. But opposition groups had previously described the shelling as indiscriminate.

At least two other Western journalists were wounded Wednesday ? French reporter Edith Bouvier of Le Figaro and British photographer Paul Conroy of the Sunday Times. Bouvier, was shown in a video posted on YouTube Thursday pleading to be evacuated so she can have an operation. She said her leg is broken in two places.

Bouvier, propped up with pillows and covered in blankets, said field hospital doctors had treated her as well as they could but did not have the equipment to operate.

"I need to be operated on as soon as possible," she said.

Bouvier, whose thigh was tightly wrapped in bandages and seemed very calm, said her femur was shattered.

A Syrian Foreign Ministry spokesman offered condolences to the families of Colvin and Ochlik but rejected any responsibility for their deaths. The spokesman urged foreign journalists to respect Syrian laws and not to sneak into the country.

Some Syrians held protests and vigils Wednesday night in several parts of Homs in commemoration of Colvin and Ochlik.

"Remi Ochlik, Marie Colvin, we will not forget you," read one banner held by protesters in the town of Qsour in Homs province.

The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said at least 16 people were killed in attacks by security forces in rebellious areas that included the Hama countryside in central Syria and the mountainous Jabal al-Zawiya region in the north. Another group, the Local Coordination Committees activist network, said the overall number of Syrians killed was 40. The reason for the differing tolls was not immediately clear.

In Geneva, a panel of U.N. human rights experts said Thursday that the United Nations has a secret list of top Syrian officials who could face investigation for crimes against humanity carried out by security forces in their crackdown against the anti-government uprising.

The U.N. experts indicated that the list goes as high as Assad.

Experts say the list is initially likely to be more of a deterrent against further abuses than a direct threat to the Assad regime. Syria isn't a member of the International Criminal Court so its jurisdiction doesn't apply there, and Russia would likely block any moves in the U.N. Security Council to refer the country to the Hague-based tribunal.

Thousands of Syrians have died in the violence since March and the panel, citing what it called a reliable source, said at least 500 children are among the dead.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague told BBC radio that military intervention was very unlikely, as "the consequences of any outside intervention are much harder to foresee."

A senior EU official said foreign ministers meeting in Brussels next week will add seven Syrian government ministers to those already sanctioned. Sanctions include asset freezes and visa bans for officials, commanders of the security forces and others considered responsible for human rights abuses.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of EU rules, said additional restrictions may be imposed on Syria's central bank, on imports of precious metals from the country, and on cargo flights.

The EU had already sanctioned more than 70 Syrians and 19 organizations and has banned imports of Syrian crude oil.

In Amman, Jordan, several dozen Syrians, mainly from Homs, staged a protest outside the U.S. Embassy asking for Western military intervention. "Almighty God, destroy Bashar," they chanted.

The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.

1-1/4 schedule 40 and schedule 80 where it could get hit by anything above ground.

Don't think the SE is rated for conduit or below ground use though.

That is not rated for wet locations, which would include installing it inside conduit underground. Other than that it is fine to use in wet or dry locations above ground.

This will not be run underground. This will be run under my floor rafters of my house in my basement. It is a dry basement. I am considering doing this so as not to have to drill over 85 holes in my rafters to run the cable otherwise. I am feeding a sub panel from my main panel for addition i put on the rear of my house.

Easier to pull four single wires instead of that jacket wire through conduit.

Workplace Rules for Employees

Workplace rules for employees along with employee background checks can reduce your liability and help ensure the safety of your staff. Business liability insurance is a valuable asset for many companies. If someone--an employee or visitor--experiences injury or property damage on your premises, they can sue for negligence. Without liability insurance, the company is stuck paying the settlement and legal fees out-of-pocket. But business liability insurance helps cover those costs so you can continue business operations with minimal financial disruption.

Some companies choose to forgo business liability insurance and take the gamble that they will never experience a lawsuit. Cost is a barrier to smaller businesses, and business liability insurance just doesn't fit into the budget each year. One way to lower costs is implementing workplace rules for employees. When customers demonstrate to their insurance providers that they are taking loss-control measures, the company usually lowers their rates. Workplace rules that are proven to lessen instances of accidents make you less expensive to insure, and you can reap the benefits of having insurance without the high cost.

Developing your own workplace rules depends on the nature of your business. Safety rules for a retail store differ from those of a shipyard, so tailor your policy to your employees' environment. Before implementing the rules, have a risk manager or human resources professional and an attorney give them a look to be sure you have your bases covered within the limits of the law.

Implementing the Policy

Posting the rules in the break room isn't enough to take substantial loss-control measures. You must educate your employees of their roles in making these rules work. You can start by designating a health and safety officer, either an existing employee or new hire, to be an authority on the new rules. This person should have some health and safety experience, like CPR certification.

In larger companies, getting managers on board first with the new workplace rules can create a trickling down of compliance. Inform the managers of the rules for their subordinates and the consequences if the rules are not followed. To be sure the rules are clear, arrange for a demonstration of proper workplace rules compliance. Seeing these policies in action is much more effective than reading about them in a pamphlet. That said, be sure each employee is given a copy of the rules to refer back to when a question arises.

Stress to employees the importance of the rules for the company's compliance with state or federal law, as well as the implications for not following the new workplace rules. Instituting formal consequences encourages employees to be cognizant of their expectations. Have each employee sign an agreement that they understand the tenets of the policy and the consequences for failing to uphold its tenets. Give a copy to the employee and keep a copy for the company's records as further evidence that the policy was implemented and understood by each employee. The stronger steps you take toward proper implementation, the lower your risk could be for a negligence suit.

Enumerate all these measures to your insurance agent, including a copy of the handbook, the chain of command for enforcement and the consequences for non-compliance presented to your employees. If the provider deems your policy a meaningful step toward lessening your liability, you could enjoy lower rates for your business liability coverage. Even if you do not see a discount from these measures, reducing your liability keeps your costs in check. Each time you make a claim, your rates rise significantly and the provider can even refuse to renew your coverage. In any event, you are making positive steps toward a safer work environment.

"Finding business liability insurance quotes in the past has always been a hassle, thanks to this website, it was much easier!"

Ryan A, Atlanta GA

"This site helped put me in touch with a business insurance provider for my dental clinic quickly, with no fuss. Very convenient!"

Christina T, Tempe AZ

"I needed a quality business liability policy to help cover my business, and getting connected with several providers was easy!"
